Two Mother’s Stories

A variety of techniques used to create one-of-a-kind cards.

People have amazing stories.  A few from a Richardson’s event still stay with me.  I’d like to share two.  They always start as a person stops to look at my cards, we start chatting.  The first lady told me she has a card that she carries wherever she goes. To prove it she promised to show it, but first she told her story.

What did she want…

‘My daughter always asked what I wanted’ the woman shared. Her response was a mother’s response, nothing but to know you love me.  She removed a red envelope from her purse and carefully pulled a card from it.  I noticed 2021 written on one corner.  I read the sentiment on the face and began to understand. Then opened it and read both the left & right pages, the heart of the card.  I completely understood.  I had sent a card to my mom that I know she treasured. My mom’s was displayed where she would see it every day and I could too when I visited. The right words, the action necessary to procure and send, gave her a visual reminder that she was loved and always would be.

A wedding day to remember…

The second woman came up to my booth and said, ‘Hi Penny’.  I looked up expecting to know her, watched her smile grew bigger, and her eyes shift to my name tag. She then introduced herself as Jayne.  She was visiting from Iowa and liked to collect mementos from her trips.  My dragonfly magnets were perfect to pack for the trip home. It turned out Jayne had an interesting story about a dragonfly and a wedding.

Her daughter was married that summer and the affair was outside.  Jayne spotted a dragonfly and asked her husband to catch it. He did but the creature was stunned.  Jayne had a corsage on her wrist, and they placed the dragonfly on it.  After a few minutes he revived a little but stayed on it, riding on the flowers as she showed him to the other guests.   After about 20 minutes he revived and took off.

Have you ever looked closely at a dragonfly’s wings in the sunlight?  They are beautiful with a shimmer of iridescent. Some people believe they bring good luck.  What a lovely experience to have on a wedding day! Photo below is the dragonfly that returned with Jayne to Iowa.

This dragonfly was a special one to me, but I’ll save that story for another day.  Do you have a story to tell? Please share and enrich the lives of others.  Remember to let the special people in your life know how much they are valued.
