Celebrate National Eat What You Want Day: Indulge and Enjoy

Yes, you heard right, May 11th is National Eat What You Want Day.  Whoa now, before you make it an all-day snack-fest stop and think. Have you experienced this:  munching away on a snack in a bag not realizing it’s gone until your hand reaches the crumbs at the bottom?

WE NEED A BREAK FROM OUR HABITS

Sometimes we eat mindlessly, not taking the time to even notice what we’re eating.

Sometimes we get into a food rut. It’s what’s fast or convenient. We settle for a quick meal on the run.  Rather than making the meal you want, you’ll reheat what’s available. Food should be enjoyed, especially on this day.

Many people watch what they eat because of health conditions.  Calorie counters set daily limits on what they eat.  Here’s a day to explore new possibilities. If you miss a certain taste or texture their maybe a substitute within your guidelines. There are different food combinations to try.

WE NEED A BREAK FROM THE EXPERTS

There are numerous videos on YouTube about nutrition. Experts armed with scientific studies are eager to tell us not only what and why but also when we should eat. Recently I learned most studies subjects were all men. It can make a difference. When only women were studied it was discovered women should eat a little before exercising.  The YouTube video that enlightened me was on the Mel Robbins channel and featured Dr. Stacy Sims. That link is at the bottom, but let’s get back to this holiday. Need ideas to add to your pleasure on May 11th? Read on…

WISHING YOU HAPPY MEALS

This day gives you freedom to explore as well as indulge.  Expand your horizons and tickle your taste buds with both. In one meal you choose a childhood favorite. Then discover some tasty treat others rave about. You can calm a craving and then satisfy your curiosity. Find something new to add to your beloved food list. Remember it’s a complete DAY, offering opportunities to explore different and diverse meals.

Let others know about this unique holiday. It’s an opportunity to get friends and family involved.  You can all enjoy a dish together.  Or if distance keeps you apart you can ask for recommendations. If it’s something that sounds appealing, find a local source. You can share that dish with them via technology. Mobile phones make it a snap to take pictures and send them instantly. If you love a recommended dish, how about a follow up thank you note? Won’t they be pleasantly surprised!
