What is Found Art Day? Join the Global Art Movement

Do you have original artwork hanging in your home? The majority of us don’t but wouldn’t it be nice? March 12th may be your lucky day.

Start of Found Art Day

It started in Canada 7 years ago and now has participants around the world. I love that Courtney Senior started giving her paintings away to find them loving homes. That was part of my logic in starting Paper Crafted Bliss.  I loved designing cards and had many ideas. I ended up with more cards than I needed. I wanted others to see and appreciate them and started PCB to find them new homes.

Significance of the date

Art is more than a creative outlet. It can be an emotional outlet too. Courtney Senior started painting to help with her anxiety. She was awkward at first.  She felt her painting were terrible. Her Dad thought they were great.  He displayed them around his home. He had them on his computer as screen savers. He was always encouraging her. She continued to paint and improved.  She also found being in the creative flow helped control her anxiety. When she lost her Dad in an accident she turned to painting to deal with her grief. In tribute to her Dad, she chose his birthday as the date for Found Art Day. This is why it is celebrated annually on March 12th.

A friend shares

I had not heard of this holiday until an artist friend spoke to our art group. She participated and had such positive experience I immediately volunteered. I have taken part in Found Art Day for the past two years and will be doing so again this year. The Facebook below was posted by my group. It was the first year we participated.  My friend Janis and I enjoyed hiding our art in plain sight. The third person is the talented photographer who received the email. I love that he posted it.  I once received an email in appreciation too.  Sharing your creations with others is what it’s all about.

Resources to learn more

You can go to their website and see a world map that allows you to drill down to specific towns. Not all artists register so keep your eyes open March 12th.  If you find artwork, sending an email to acknowledge its discovery is appreciated.  I know where you can get a handcrafted thank you card…. just kidding.

If you are creative, I encourage you to consider participating. They ask you to choose one or more artworks. It doesn’t have to be a painting. The website gives detailed information.  Share your talent with others. International Art and Found Day | March 12th, 2025
