How to Write Heartfelt Card Messages: Tips and Pointers

Ever purchase the perfect card and then it sits in a drawer? Not sure what to write? Afraid of messing it up? I have some tips that helped me. They start by remembering the letters of the word: WRITE

W-WRITE the address on the envelope. Commit, put a stamp on it. You will be sending this one.

R-What’s the REASON for the card? A celebration?  Miss them? Want to support? You can mention that in your note. If you can’t think of the right words RESEARCH on the internet.

I- Keep the “I” in your message. If you picked this card for them share why.  Share a memory if that triggered your desire to reach out. Share your feelings.  Keep it short and sincere.

T-Technology is your friend. Vocal record your ideas. Use your phone to capture sentences that express what you’ll write. Or a word processor helps me to see and then move, condense (it’s just a couple of sentences), check spelling, punctuation, and grammar.

E-Last letter ELOCUTION. You read your draft out loud or listen to it. My Word program features under Review a Read Aloud button. Does it flow? Convey what you want to say? Adjust until you are happy.

Once you know what to say, don’t hesitate.  It’s only a few sentences. Like anything it gets easier with practice.  Relax, take your time and use cursive or print. Mine is normally a combination.  You’ve thought about every word, you don’t want them to miss one.  Don’t be afraid to use the back or other blank spaces if needed. It can be hard at first judging how to use the space. The more you do it, the better you’ll get at all aspects of note writing. Don’t stress any imperfections you see. They’ll only care that you were thinking of them. Now sign, slide it in that envelope & drop it in the mail.

At first the WRITE method does take extra time. It helps to select a card with the person in mind. If the images appeal to you that’s step one. If the images and any wording remind you of them, you must get it. Three cards from Paper Crafted Bliss were used for the opening photograph. They can all easily, with the right wording, be used for a birthday, thinking of you or thank you card.

This method can be fun. No more rush every time you need a card.  You get to pick a card you both enjoy. Have fun thinking about what to write and then putting your written notecard in the mail. This is someone you care about. Imagining their smile should bring a smile to your face.

I’d love to hear any of your own experiences or tips. Let me know in the comment section also, any ideas mentioned that you’d like more details.  Hugs.
